Netflix using HTML5 only (no Silverlight) on OS X Mavericks
This week it was announced that Netflix would now work on Linux using native HTML5 playback (using DRM provided by WidevineCdm). This follows news a couple of months ago that HTML5 would be supported in Safari on OS X Yosemite (yet to be released).
Following the Linux news, I thought I’d give it another try on OS X Mavericks and happily it worked — I can finally watch Netflix on my Mac. ☺
You need to be running Chrome (I’m on v37), and need to ensure you have “Prefer HTML5" checked in Playback Settings (in “Your Account” screen). Then you may be prompted to update WidevineCdm by going to chrome://components and hitting the ‘Check for update’ button (it is working for me with v 22.214.171.1241).
