I don’t know that there are any nefarious backroom dealings purposely excluding anyone. It seems to me that many moneyed interests that back Democrats such as green tech entrepreneurs and labor unions have an interest in making third parties competitive. I think the most important question is, what if election reform backfires and helps conservatives more than liberals? For instance, I live in Wisconsin where the Koch brothers dominate our state politics, and they’ve spent vast fortunes indoctrinating the locals on the merits of their brand of libertarianism. If independent voters who disdain the GOP flock en masse to the Libertarian Party, the resulting conservative coalition could be an even more powerful weapon to disintegrate civilization. As much as I like the idea of election reform, government just isn’t an entity where you want to introduce new risk.
