Benefits of Hawaii’s Kukui Oil for Skin and Hair
The founder and president of Onesta Hair Care, Tom Redmond continues the work he began with Aussie in providing natural and organic products without harmful chemicals. Through Aussie and now Onesta, Tom Redmond has used naturally beneficial oils such as kukui oil.
Originally from Hawaii, where native residents have used it for centuries, kukui oil comes from Hawaii’s state tree, known either as the candlenut tree or the kukui nut tree. The harvesting process involves coldpressing the tree’s large nuts. The resulting kukui oil’s benefits range from soothing muscle pain to helping wounds heal more quickly. It became popular when actress Lupita Nyong’o told Glamour that she used the oil along with avocado oil to enhance her skin.
Kukui oil naturally serves as a moisturizer and contains antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamins that benefit the skin and may help prevent cell damage from free radicals. It can also strengthen the hair when used in products such as shampoo, coating individual strands with linolenic and linoleic fatty acids, which stop breakage and improve shine.
