One person’s history of Twitter, from beginning to end
Mike Monteiro

This is very good, and somewhat mirrors my own experience with Twitter. Just like Vine, Twitter was fun and full of jokes and mostly harmless jokesters at the beginning. Then the Hate Brigade found their way in and turned our Garden of Eden into a festering pit of homophobia, hate and harrassment.

Vine, owned by Twitter, was eventually just shut down because I guess that seemed easier than putting a stop to the torrent of vile, hateful comments being left by the nasty new tribe that had infiltrated. Twitter continues to limp along. There’s rarely a day that goes by when I don’t consider quitting Twitter. But I keep reminding myself that sometimes it’s good to bear witness to the destruction of civil society.
