Is it DISINGENUOUS for an INDEPENDENT to run for President as a DEMOCRAT ?

The various definitions I have found are:

-not being what one purports to be

In laymen’s terms it is called….two faced

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has for his entire political career called himself an INDEPENDENT.

Every political office he was elected to he was elected as an INDEPENDENT.

In 1981 he ran for and was elected Mayor of Burlington, Vermont as an INDEPENDENT,

In 1990 he ran for and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as an INDEPENDENT,

In 2006 he ran for and was elected U.S. Senator as an INDEPENDENT and in 2012 was reelected as an INDEPENDENT.

During his entire political career has has always been an INDEPENDENT and has refused to run for any political office as a DEMOCRAT.

He has aligned himself with the Democrats in the U.S. Senate but still calls himself an INDEPENDENT.

In 2015 he entered the race for the DEMOCRATIC PARTY nomination as President

During his campaign for the Democratic Party nomination he has often criticized Hillary Clinton of flip flopping on various issues while he conveniently flip flopped from being an INDEPENDENT to running for President as a DEMOCRAT.

I have watched every debate and most of Sanders numerous interviews with various journalists but not once have I heard him asked if he is being DISINGENUOUS by running for President as a DEMOCRAT.
