Netflix tried to put a more human context on recommendation with Max. The bot had a friendly voice, structured conversation, and a tone consistent with that of a knowledgeable friend recommending a feature without overwhelming on choice. I personally think Max is a success. So to your point, it’s definitely been a priority for some companies more than others. Netflix also took the lead on corporate culture and made that a competitive advantage as well, so I’m not surprised.
