Growing My Beard for a Cause
My No Shave November Log
Every year I retire my razor for one month and dedicate a full beard to creating awareness for men’s health issues. There’s a lot of debate out there about the true title of this month, but I for one would much rather be walking around with a full beard than an awkward mustache.
Don’t take this the wrong way, I completely support everything that Movember is doing (after all we are both working toward the same goal of creating awareness for Men’s health issues and they have raised millions over the past couple of years), but in my personal opinion beards are far superior to mustaches (sorry Ron Burgundy).
No Shave November is something very important to me. In November 2008 I lost a good friend and older brother figure to suicide during my senior year of high school. Since his passing i’ve made it my mission to erase the taboo of suicide in public discourse and create awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
One way I accomplish this mission is by working closely with organizations like SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) and offering pro bono marketing services as well as raising money through our company for their cause. In November I dedicate my face to the cause of creating awareness to mental health. Every year I try to up my beard mastery and take it to another level. This year I started preparing for No Shave November on September 21st, which is as we will see is going to make for an awesome conversation starting beard.
I’ll be updating this post consistently throughout the month with updated pictures of my beard and any interesting articles I find related to men’s health issues. I hope you’ll join me this month by growing a beard, mustache, donating to the cause, or taking the time to look into Men’s health issues. If you want to show your support to my cause I ask that you donate any amount to SAVE here.
