I Gained — and Lost — Weight Thanks to My Kids

I love my children. They’re blessings, and every day I’m thankful I have them in my life. Anyone who has children will probably tell you the same — they’ll also tell you that pregnancy weight isn’t always easy to lose.

I’m married with two, beautiful children — a son, soon to be 7, and a daughter, 5 — and I’m now the lowest weight I’ve been since giving birth to my daughter. But it wasn’t always that way. In 2010, I weighed 207 lbs. — not the best for a woman of 5’2”.

I had a lot of complications during my pregnancy that prevented me from staying active. I even had to battle some hereditary issues, like high cholesterol, that made weight loss extremely difficult. It was tough, and I wasn’t happy with where my body was. So, I made it a goal to reshape my lifestyle (and my body), and I started following along with the Powell Metabolics program here at GoDaddy.

I watch the video series online and use the gym in our Tempe office at least three times a week. The support system is amazing — between the videos, gym, healthier food options, and the love of my friends and family, I’m making great strides toward a better lifestyle. I eat protein with every meal, watch my water intake, and shop for food with a healthy mindset.

From weight lifting to cardio, I do it all. I even hike the San Tan Mountains with my family on the weekends. Including my kids makes all the difference, and it’s important for me to lead by example. Together, we make exercising a game and I make it a point to teach them about balancing food types. My kids are my biggest inspiration — they’re always telling me about how they eat their protein and greens. With them on my side, I know I can do anything.

I’m not too focused on the scale these days, as I’m building muscle in addition to the weight loss. But I can happily say that I’m now down to 149 lbs.! I’m ready to kick the last 14 lbs. I’ve never been able to tackle before, but I’m positive I can do it. With the amazing support of the GDFIT community (and my awesome Fitbit), my ideal lifestyle is within my reach.
