There are many reasons why you would want to remove the metadata or Exif data from a photo. Maybe you want to share it with somebody you don’t really know. Maybe you want to upload it to a website you don’t trust.

There are many reasons to delete the metadata of your photos, but it mainly boils down to you wanting to protect your privacy.

I am an independent iOS developer that has made an iPhone, iPad and Mac app to help you process your images. The app is Exif Metadata Editor, it is free to download. Click here to download it.

Now, here is how you can remove all the metadata from your photos:

First, if you want to delete not only the metadata but also the location and the date you need to activate a special setting. If you are only interested in deleting the Exif metadata itself, you can skip this step.

Go to Settings in the app, Advanced and then enable the first option.

(Optional) Step 1: Enable Advanced Setting to remove location + date + metadata

Now, secondly, select the picture that you want and click Metadata and then Remove Metadata. A system alert will popup asking to confirm the changes and that will be it.

Step 2: Remove Metadata from the photo

You can also remove the metadata from more than one photo at a time, by using Batch Editing. Select all the photos you want and then open the Metadata menu and select Remove Metadata.

The app used in this example is Exif Metadata Editor, it is free to download. Editing tools are paid features and there is a free trial. Click here to download it.
