What immigration detention did to my mental health.
Graciela Lopez

I am literally ashamed by the responses on this article. I’m from Italy, a country receiving thousands of illegal immigrants every day and I am deeply ashamed for the way they are treated and the conditions they live while they wait to have the permit granted or rejected. People do not decide to move to another country because they like the idea, they (I should say we, as I am not living in Italy at the moment) do it because the conditions in their countries are bad and most of the times staying there would mean risk of death and a life of pain because there is no future for them.

But I do not expect someone that merely knows who their neighbor countries are, to understand what I am talking about.
