Life has been turned upside down. Everything we thought we had is now at risk as families struggle with isolation, insecurity, ill-health, and the constant fear of infection. Some families have been left devastated by this novel coronavirus that has swept through the world striking people of all ages, all nationalities and all religions. People with compromised immune systems, pregnant women, elderly people and people with chronic health conditions are more at risk. But we cannot be complacent. We are all in this together.

We are all responsible for the survival of the human race. We’ve ignored climate scientists and carried on with business as usual. We’ve built modern societies and comfortable lifestyles while ignoring the warning signs. Tremors from the fault line of a capitalist system haven’t registered in cities chock-a-block with skyscrapers and superhighways. Global leaders sit on thrones holding the sceptre of economic growth, balking at environmentalists who dare tell us we must change the way we live.

Global peace, health and prosperity may be a tall order, but we can start in our own countries.
