Step Up to the Plate for Kiwi Herring in Three Easy Steps

Listen up, folks; there’s work to do.

Kiwi Herring was a transgender woman from St. Louis who meant the world to her partner, three children, and family. On Tuesday morning, The St. Louis Police Department robbed the St. Louis community of Kiwi, and their reports continue to deadname and misgender her. As local and national media spread the story, many publications are following the police’s lead.

This is absolutely unacceptable, y’all.

Kiwi’s loved ones honored her Wednesday with a candlelit vigil. And as they grappled with their feelings of love and grief, a motorist flipped off the protestors and drove his car into the crowd, injuring three people.

To top it off, Kiwi’s partner Kristopher Thompson was arrested onsite when Kiwi was killed. They are currently being held for $80,000 in the Workhouse.

So here’s the plan.

We’re demanding justice for Kiwi and her partner. That means:

  • Demanding that Kiwi and her partner be reported on accurately and with dignity. Police and members of the media MUST use the proper names and pronouns when referring to Kiwi and her partner.
  • Demanding justice for Kiwi’s partner, Kristopher Thompson. The bond set for Thompson is ridiculous and unreasonable, and we’re demanding that the bond be waived and the charges against Thompson be dropped entirely.

Step One

  • Call Kim Gardner, the Circuit Attorney, and demand Kristopher Thompson’s release. Flood the inbox, and call back at 7:30am. And keep calling.
  • (314) 622–4941

Here’s a script you can use when you call:

“I am calling to demand the immediate release of Kiwi Herring’s partner, and a waive of any monetary bail required. I am also calling to demand that any and all charges that may be levied against them be dropped.”

Step Two

  • Call the St. Louis PD Media Relations Line, and demand that Kiwi Herring and Kristopher Thompson be referred to with accurate pronouns and names only.
  • (314) 444–5603

Here’s a script you can use when you call:

“ I am calling to demand that the St. Louis Police Department use the proper names and pronouns when referring to Kiwi Herring and her partner Kristopher Thompson.”
