Well-trotted European capitals or luxurious beach-side accommodations no longer sway the affluent travellers. Recent studies show a shift among the world’s wealthiest travellers as they now wish to collect authentic experiences that include pared-back hotels, spa experiences among some.

1. Travel advisors

The focus of luxury travel has shifted to experience rather than material possession and with this shift comes increase in travel articles, photographs, social media content and more. All this content inspires travellers to experience what they are seeing and reading but with so much of information they don’t know where to begin.

Enter travel advisor who unlike travel agents are more like matchmakers between the traveller and the experience they seek. Rather than booking tickets and hotels, their job is to get to know the client at a personal level and create an experience based on their interests.

Most VIP and luxury travel agencies already offer this kind of service to make your experience memorable for a lifetime.

2. Destinations attached with a call-to-visit deadline

There are certain destinations in the world that carries with them a deadline either due to political or environmental or social reasons.

Cuba has seen a surge of tourists since opening its door to America. Trips to North Pole and South Pole have been popular since tangible effects from global warning have been seen. And since scientists have predicted this year to be one of the best to see the Northern Lights, Iceland has seen a massive increase in tourists.

3. Less material experiences

Luxury travellers are now placing more importance on access and less on material goods. They are looking for something more than just a luxurious experience. They want to experience that none of their counterparts have experienced before and wish to tell the world about it.

Social media has created a story teller out of all travellers.

4. Rejuvenation experiences

As people are getting more and more conscious about their health, wellness tourism is getting its fair share of attention. With traveller’s interests in local experiences combined with rejuvenation experiences there’s been a rise in demand for hotel spas.

Most hotel spas offer their signature treatment combined with exercise and healthy eating for a great experience.

5. Smaller hotels

The old-school opulence is being replaced by pared-back hotels that offer less is more experiences. Simplified rooms with minimal furniture, intelligent technology and spacious bathrooms giving the occupant encouragement for relaxation with in-house restaurant chefs offering amazing food and wine to hone the experience is what luxury travel is now going towards.

6. Edible resorts

Farm-to-table; ocean-to-plates; kitchen gardens, edible resorts are on the rise as there is an increased awareness of what we eat. Hotels are placed within vineyards, olive groves and other edible parterres to create delicious experiences for luxury travellers.
