I think the best way to make sure you stick with it is to make some sort of sacrifice to pay for it. Then the sacrifice becomes a sort of reminder of your goal. So when you donate, donate money from something you gave up. A skipped coffee is $60 a month. Then give that $60 to a cause you believe will help. Keep that up, but the lack of coffee (or lack of eating out, or the not buying a specific thing) will keep it in mind for you. And probably reminds you of the people you are doing this for. You’ll be giving up coffee to help migrants or Muslims, or whoever.
