Most people use these undocumented workers as scape goats. If they all vanished, imagine how the price of fruits and veggies would go up. They are our main pickers.

Taking away jobs is not accurate; most meat packing companies, at least places I know, is a job nobody wouldn’t do. I knew of such a man who spent 10 hours a day working in below 40* temperature cleaning offal from a slaughter house floor.

THe best book I have read on this is “Coyotes” a jourrney of a middle class white guy who traveled with and saw how effient they were as pickers, how stoic and tough these small undernourished men were. Not getting any help if injured,(not by choice) and not complaining when hungry. They spent much money to get here, often just to be caught and sent back.

Why they do it? they try to keep their families back home, fed and clothed. It’s Serious poverty there, shacks W/O running water, limited food, dirt floors and all. They don’t live that way because they want to, international poverty is harder than what we have here.
