The buzz word “Metaverse” is recently taking the crypto industry by storm. The race has heated up since tech giants began to discuss their visions and aspirations for a shared virtual era that enables users to connect, communicate, work, shop, and participate in other activities.

The announcement of Facebook’s rebranding to Meta sparked a lot of interest in the concept of Metaverse. Microsoft, another major player, is likewise working to create an enterprise metaverse.

Key Points

Aside from technological objectives, digital assets such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are proven to be valuable assets. A market for these assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars is also fast emerging.

While the metaverse is more of a conceptual idea of a completely virtual universe that allows us to move from one part to another, the construction of the multiverse is likely something that we have already accomplished, despite the availability of speculations.

The concept of a multiverse refers to the existence of various virtual universes, each having its own set of characteristics, qualities, and features.

Essentially, it is similar to what we have now on the Internet with individual digital ecosystems such as social media and virtual world game settings. Unlike the metaverse, each virtual world in the multiverse exists separately and is disconnected from the others.

Multiverse to Set Standards For The Metaverse

Many people believe that the metaverse will be the next internet revolution. It is obvious that the metaverse is promising, but it is worth noting that the metaverse will only be formed once all companies collaborate to provide a seamless user experience. The question is whether they will. This seems to be greed’s math.

For the time being, the focus of tech juggernauts such as Meta, Tik Tok, and Microsoft is on creating their own virtual world. In other words, companies are most likely preparing for a centralized metaverse in which authority and control remain in place.

The Connections Are Waiting

The purpose of blockchain and Web 3.0 is to avoid centralized control. And this is when the multiverse comes into play.

Multiple decentralized metaverse initiatives must be integrated into an unified experience, which necessitates multiverse development. The multiverse method is distinguished by democracies, decentralization, and unified experiences.

As a result, the term “multiverse” refers to the development of decentralized metaverse projects that come together to form the concept of a united, decentralized metaverse.

The rapid growth of NFT technology, blockchain, and cryptocurrency is expected to be a driving force in the development of a metaverse economic paradigm. There will undoubtedly be a long way to go before the Metaverse pervades every aspect of everyone’s life.

The Multiverse is Here Already

Due to numerous legal and technical restrictions, the metaverse remains something that will likely exist in the future. In fact, we are already participating in the multiverse. The concept of products spreading across many distribution platforms is not novel.

The best example of the multiverse can be found in the various virtual worlds in online gaming. We see a game that can be played on various platforms, or that DC’s superheroes can appear in a movie, on television as a TV series, or in gaming format.

So, where are we going?

Is it a metaverse, a multiverse, or a multi metaverse?

The future is extremely unpredictable. None of these concepts are promised to become lasting social currents. It is too early to say where we are heading, but one thing is certain: the multiverse is establishing standards for the metaverse.
