Welcome to this weeks Trivver XR Report, a roundup of our favorite news in the XR field the Trivver team has found over the past couple of weeks!

  1. People Recall Information Better Through Virtual Reality
Recent research from the University of Maryland finds that participants recall information better through virtual reality than a traditional desktop computer or tablet. “… immersive environments could offer new pathways for improved outcomes in education and high-proficiency training,” said UMD professor Amitabh Varshney. With better learning outcomes, virtual reality is poised to increase its already large impact on the future of medicine, education and workplace training.
  2. What’s better than seeing augmented reality? Sharing it with your friends!
Snapchat knows how to use AR to engage consumers! First through Lenses and now through animated shorts using 3D Bitmojis, the animation team at Snapchat is excelling themselves. They have come together over the past 6 months and now crank out new Bitmoji episodes multiple times a week. These bits are short but powerful, the thought and work amazing. Snapchat is pushing us rapidly into a XR future!
  3. Augmented Reality Marketing Becomes Crucial
AR is quickly becoming a mainstay in many companies’ marketing strategies. 90% of large companies are using AR or VR technology. 90%. Of smaller companies, 10% are using it this year; 72% plan to use it next year according to a Purch.com Poll. How can AR add value to your consumer’s experience? 4. VR And AR — Greatest Revolution In The History Of UX/UI Design?
Extended reality, the collection of VR, AR, MR, is going to completely change user interaction, design and so much more, says Forbes Contributor Jesse Damiani. Not just the change from 2-D to 3-D, but a world where users will be interacting with technology using their entire bodies. This article breaks down how in XR, space is a story, and how designers will have a great influence on the future of our XR reality.
  5. Oculus TV Now Available on Oculus Go
Have you used the phone/VR combo known as Oculus Go? TV has finally come to the Oculus Go through the newly released Oculus TV. This new TV viewing experience provides a variety of TV channels and streaming services, and a virtual screen that is equivalent to a 180-inch TV in real life. Current programming includes live and on-demand content from USA, Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, and more. And they announced programming is quickly growing with ESPN coming soon! Fighting over the remote is officially a thing of the past.
  6. Leap Motion shows off AR headset with rousing game of ping pong
Leap Motion released a demo highlighting their Project North Star headgear with paddle controllers playing a rousing game of ping pong verse an AI opponent. The video makes the ping pong game look fluid and natural, as though you were playing with a friend in RR, not AR! Except for the fact that your opponent is just a paddle, no body… Check out the video below to see
