Till now, electric games have a history of more than 70 years. In the long history, PVP game has grown to a larger size than single player game. Now games are not only for entertainment, but also for social targets. It is much better to play with friends, even with strangers than facing a cold computer.

From dota to PUBG, and to Fortnite, the developing of mainstream game is proving this point.

So it is the same for blockchain game and TRON game. Although TRON game mainly consists of dice games, players can’t deny that dice is boring. It is fact that TRON players come for money, but things keep changing, blockchain games will not keep being part of financial forever. PVP game will act an important role in changing blockchain game into real game. So let’s look back into the history of TRON PVP games.

Possibility PVP game

Now and in the near future, TRON game is a world of possibility. Games like dice, poker, etc., are all a long journey to mathematical expectation. The journey is boring and the only thing make players go ahead is earning money, which makes it more similar with job than game.

So someone what to make some little change on the boring journey. Since it is possibility game, why make it a little more interesting? So some possibility games with PVP elements are developped.

So in November, 2018, Tron Red Envelope is online. Red Envelop is a tradition of Chinese during the traditional Spring Festival, when olders give youth some money in red envelops for good luck. Tron Red Envelope choose the time to release, thus New Year and Chinese Spring Festival are coming.

However, in China, red envelope is a social tool more than a game, while Tron Red Envelop can’t satisfy social demond. This tells the nature of Tron Red Envelop, a game has no actual difference with dice, but has a much higher house edge.

The game developer knows this too. In March, 2019, after Chinese Spring Festival period is ended.

In January, 2019, the duel ring mode of Tronbet is released. Supported by the strong platform of Tronbet, duel ring may be the most successful possibility PVP game on TRON. The game is easy, player can create a duel of 2~4 players, or join duel of other players. Each player choose a color and player will win if the ring comes to your color. Obviously, it is a 100% possibility game, affected by no factor except luck.

Seems no one can make a possibility PVP game long except Tronbet. An example is that a game called Duel, which is essentially a PVP version coin flip. The game didn’t perform well, died in less than a month. For possibility games, PVP game brings limited fun and cannot satisfy social demand. On the other hand, PVP game need more when developing, starting and operation, which makes it harder to live long.

It is like job, which is boring most time, even sometimes it is enlivened.

Raising PVP game

CryptoKitty is the first phenomenal blockchain game, which has a big effect on blockchain games. Some games enrich gameplay on the basis of CryptoKitty, being live on public chains like ETH and EOS. In December, 2018, when TRON started to grow fast, several such games appear on TRON. As fighting systsm is added, the logic is no longer simply buy-breed-sell, but PVP elements come about. Such raising PVP games includes Blockchain Cuties, Everdragons, ChibiFighters, etc.

This three games have some features in common:

1.Token is needed to create a role and improve the abilities of the role;

2.Role can be traded on market;

3.All copied from other public chain;

4.PVP type is 1V1, the battle is strongly relative with the abilities of the role.

We can see that the routine of the games are clear. All come from CryptoKitty, and come to TRON after success on other public chain. But PVP element is not the main part of the games, the game still goes well even if there is no PVP element.

Now Everdragon seems coming to an end, Blockchain Cuties is still well-working, and after long time of presale, ChibiFighters was released and performed quite well. However after the three games, no more similar games appeared in a long time, except TronGoo, which was released in January, 2019.

The source of TronGoo is different. In December, 2018, Tron Thrimp Farmer, which is copied from ETH, was the most popular game at that time. Soon lots of imitation appears, including TronGoo, which is a late one. TronGoo has a big upgrade of Tron Thrimp Farmer, improves the UI, and enriches gameplay. And adding battle system becomes a PVP element.

In TronGoo, you can attack other players to steal Goo(core asset of the game), and attack power, defense power is designed to decide the result of the battle, while cooldown element is also included. The PVP element is also an extra part of the game, the game can run well without the PVP element.

So, in raising games, PVP element is not the key part.

Strategy PVP game

Even for traditional games, SLG (simulation game) is a relatively less popular kind, since less people are willing to use their head even in games. This becomes more obvious since people have less time for games. Strategy game is even rarer on TRON and not so completed.

On January, 2019, TronKingdom was released. The volume of this game came to zero after 15 days. However, it is the first strategy PVP game on TRON.

In TronKingdom, 5 players are needed for each game, and each of the players have a kingdom. The game is in turn, and for each turn, a player can choose “train”(making troops increase for 1 unit) or attack other kingdoms. Player with more troops will win the battle, and the last player win the game.

For TRON games, it is not easy to gather 5 players for one game, so 1V1 mode and PVE mode was released after that. But the entering fee of 100~150TRX also kept players away. Imagine that you paid 100TRX to enter the game, and no players are matched, you must want to give up.

But the key problem is the strategy.

After read the guide, you will find that for each kingdom, the initial number of the troops is the same. The battle is totally decide by the number of troops, and when attacker and defender has the same number of troops, defender wins and all troops of attacker are killed.

So who will choose to attack? Everyone will keep training to the up limit, and everyone has the same number of troops, and nothing happens then.

I want to try if above is the fact, but I never matched a game. Since in PVE mode AI will do nothing, I never completed a game.

In April, another war strategy PVP game, BLOCKLORDS was released on TRON main net. When it is tested in January, I had noticed it. The game won award on TRON accelerate, and now is run on TRON and NEO. The game has a highly quality with exquisite UI, large European map, shocking BGM, which is better than all games on TRON.

The game has a high threshold, player need to cost 500TRX to create a hero first, the hero can wear equipment and equipment can raise level. There are 3 kinds of battle in the game, each of which need to cost some TRX, so the cost in early period is high. Players can win TRX by trading items on market and attack the city treasury.

Two of the three kinds of battle will be PVP battle, and this is the most important PVP element of the game. At present, the battle is automatic, but the game developer has a further plan to turn the battle into a manual one thus more strategy elements can be added in. After all, this game is aimed at famous IP like Europa Universalis and Total War.

In June, a game named RocketGame was online. 3 games are included, we will not talk about dice and one-arm bandit, but the other game, monopoly, is a PVP game that never appeared on TRON before.

Many people have played monopoly, while you can play a simple version on RocketGame. 2~4 players can play the game at the same time. Each player will roll the dice in order, and move the car to a corresponding place, and player can buy the corresponding shop. If cars of other player come to your shop, they have to pay. Players out of cash will lose and the last player wins.

The game is mainy decided by luck while some strategy elements also exist. In the late period the game, you should not buy shops to avoid lacking of cash. Certainly, the simple rule makes that players can’t do much on strategy.

In these strategy games, PVP become the core part of the games. But high threshold and lack of strategy makes negative effects. However, we hope more games like BLOCKLORDS can come into our sight, which is the hope of gamification of blockchain games.

Action PVP game

Limited by the TPS of blockchain, action game is rare on TRON, while it is a mainstream kind among traditional games. The dominater of traditional game is a follower on blockchain.

In November, 2018, Tronman was released, which may be the first action PVP game on TRON. This game is copied from Bombman, 2 players set bombs on the map and try to kill the other one. However, as an action game, Tronman didn’t do well on operation. The explosion of the bomb is slow and range is short, so it is very hard to kill your opposite. You even may kill yourself as you may be locked at someplace of the map due to bug, all these make the game unqualified. However, 7 months passed by, still some people play this game(though few), which tell us that people do need action PVP game, but there are few of them.

In January, 2019, Traps was online. This is a muti-player PVP game. There are lots of balls on the map, and player can control the ball to eat other balls to make the ball bigger, and avoid being eaten by other balls. The gameplay was unique at that time and attracted many players. However, Traps has some disadvantages on operation, which is the core experience of the game. When player control the ball with the mouse, it can’t be done accurately, but you can’t do it with keyboard; and the mobile version is delayed for a long time, players can’t play it on mobile phone. So the game gradually come to the end on March, the update of twitter is also stopped.

In May, Hypersnake of TRON version is released. It is a snake game copied from ETH, the core gameplay is the same with Traps(snake instead of ball), but more completed. The UI is very exquisite, and more mode are offered. On the other hand, experience is much better, so the game had a good performance.

Though there are few games, action PVP games have proved that they can attract players. Traps and Hypersnakes tell us that operation is the core experience of the game. Other blockchain games may succeed with business model, but action game can never do that with a terrible operation experience.

Future PVP game

PVP TRON games has been facing problems. Limited by TPS, hard to develop and start, difficult to design economic model, players are all for earning money, etc. However, we still find some awesome PVP games, which may be a faster way for blockchain to complete gamification.

For blockchain games, it is very hard to reach traditional games with gameplay. The core value of a game is “fun”, if a blockchain game cannot bring “fun”, it will be a financial game. If gameplay is limited, PVP may be another way to generate “fun”.

Though now TRON is dominated by dice, but according to second law of thermodynamics, the only law in the universe is “entropy increase”, is “change”. As the coin market comes to a bull market, DApp is experiencing a cold period. If the bear market last year makes coin market calmer, will DApp field change because of the present cold period?

We will wait and see, expecting more interesting PVP blockchain games.
