BANGLADESH COURT’S VERDICT; SHEIKH HASINA’S ATTACKER TARIQUE RAHMAN SENTENCED TO LIFE PRISON

The Bangladesh Court on Wednesday sends ex-PM Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman to the jail till date after finding him guilty for the conspirational attack on present Chief Minister Sheikh Hasina. Along with Tarique, 19 others were also sentenced for life in 2004 grenade attack on PM after the final verdict.

After hearing the verdict, prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain told that “We thank God for the verdict. We hoped that Tarique Rahman would get the death sentence”.

The 2004 attack on Sheik Hasina left her injured and 20 people killed after a trap of controversy was made. Rahman was running from the case and resides in London since 2008.

He is currently leading the opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after her mother was jailed on February this year in a graft case. The final verdict of the court created outrage among the BNP leaders who said that the sentenced was done to keep them out from the next election which will hold December this year.

The hearing of the case was completed on September 18 but the final hearing was reserved for October 10 and ahead of it, the security personnel in huge numbers were deployed to avoid any violence in the country.

As per the sources, the BNP leaders have sponsored the attackers as the militant of Harkatul Jihad al Islami (HuJI).
