5 Surprising Stats on How Americans Travel
Have you ever noticed when you sit still for a few hours without moving, you realize how your legs suddenly “fall asleep” or feel tense?
That’s because they are not meant for sitting still. We need to move and be in motion almost all the time.
We also need to go explore places and experience new things. And that’s why most of us travel or make plans for traveling.
We asked around 1000–2000 Americans various questions about traveling through TruePublic and here is what they had to say.
Have you ever traveled outside of the United States?
Most of the Baby Boomers (89%) have traveled outside of the US, while nearly half of Gen Z haven’t.
How many of the 50 United States of America have you visited?
Most of the people from Gen Z and most of the Millenials have visited only 5 to 10 states, while most Baby Boomers and Generation X people have visited 11–30 states.
Still, only 6% of the respondents have visited 31 to 50 US states.
Interestingly, most people (72%) would rather spend one year visiting their favorite country over sailing around the world.
Additionally, people love traveling for pleasure so much that most of them (64%) would just take a vacation rather than travel to a war-torn country to provide aid.
Note, however, that male respondents are more into taking a vacation than the females are.
Which is your ideal vacation destination for this summer?
- Disney World 16%
- Hawaii 44%
- Universal Studios 19%
- Caribbean cruise 21%
Most Baby Boomers would prefer a Caribbean cruise, while the rest of the age groups would opt for Hawaii.
As for the countries, most of the respondents said they would go to Spain (47%) with Austria, China, and Israel coming next.
Most Baby Boomers would choose Israel, while the rest of the age groups would choose Spain.
Which of these popular tourist attractions interests you most?
- Eiffel Tower 46%
- The Great Wall of China 21%
- Taj Mahal 15%
- Stonehenge 18%
Most of the respondents from Gen Z, Millennial, and Baby Boomer generations opted for The Eiffel Tower, while most of the respondents (34%) from Gen X chose Stonehenge.
Which of these activities is the best way to spend time during a beach vacation?
- Playing volleyball 29%
- People-watching 15%
- Catching up with a friend 31%
- A cold drink & a book 25%
Most of the people from Gen Z opted for the option “Catching up with a friend,” while most of the representatives of other age groups chose “a cold drink & a book.”
Summing up
Sometimes, the generation gap feels so intense and sometimes there are huge differences between how males and females view things. Traveling is something that people view very differently. Some would prefer taking a vacation, while others would head towards a war-torn country to provide aid. These numbers just show how different we all are in terms of our behavior, interests, and way of thinking.
