On the anonymous opinion app, Aop, a question was recently asked about the country’s feelings toward Edward Snowden. Do you consider Edward Snowden to be more of a traitor or a hero?
The former government employee, who famously exposed thousands of secret documents revealing government spying programs, offers a fascinating look into the partisan divide in America.
- 91% of those who lean Democrat call Edward Snowden a hero.
- 56% of Independents consider Snowden to be a hero, versus 44% who call him a traitor.
- 36% of Republicans consider Snowden a hero, while 65% believe his actions are those of a traitor.
How do views of Snowden’s actions change based on your age? It turns out that Millennials view him much differently than those who are older.
- 69% of Millennials call Snowden a hero.
- 60% of the Gen X generation see Snowden as a traitor, the highest among the three generations.
- Baby Boomers are close but lean towards calling Snowden a traitor — at 56%.
Lastly, we look at gender. Does gender have any impact on views of Edward Snowden? Not much. Men and Women both agree that Snowden is more of a hero then a traitor at 57% and 55% respectively.
