Resources in Applied Behavior Analysis
There are a great wide variety of journals out there for behavior analysts (students and professionals) that some people may not be aware of. Of course the there is the obvious Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior. These were the “go to” journals throughout my educational career. Of course, I still go to these places for peer reviewed articles and research. However, there are more places available for behavior analysts to gather information and join in on discussions on topics in the field. It was not until years later that I discovered so many more resources. I am still coming across more great resources in researching topics that are current in the field and even when deciding what to write about on this blog. Recently, I had a conversation with a student who had no idea about some of the websites and journals out there. So I thought I would dedicate this blog entry to some of these resources.
Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA):
Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior:
The Analysis of Verbal Behavior: The Analysis of Verbal Behavior is published bi-annually by ABAI and is primarily focuses on experimental or theoretical papers related to a behavioral analysis of verbal behavior.
The Behavior Analyst: The Behavior Analyst is the official publication of ABAI. Published twice annually, it offers articles on theoretical, experimental, and applied topics in behavior analysis. Also includes literature reviews, re-interpretations of published data, and articles on behaviorism as a philosophy.
Aubrey Daniels’ Institute: “The primary mission of the Aubrey Daniels Institute is to identify and disseminate the deliberate application of behavior analysis and its potential impact with particular focus on the workplace. Areas of analysis may include how best to sustain positive change, create engagement, address workplace problems without resorting to threat or fear, and how to create a safety culture, not just at the frontline but also up through the ranks. The Institute seeks to provide a relevant and complete understanding of human performance by sharing examples and presenting new findings of the science or in analyzing the impact of a related field.”
Behavior Analysis Quarterly: “Behavior Analysis Quarterly is an online magazine written and run by behavior analysts for behavior analysts. Since it’s inception in 1989 by Dr. Joseph Wyatt (then known as Behavior Analysis Digest), BAQ has provided in-depth analysis of issues within the field and larger society through a behavioral lens. The mission of BAQ is the dissemination and celebration of all things behavior analysis. You can view the current issue and every past issue for free on this site. Below are the people who make BAQ possible.”
Behavior Analysis in Practice: Behavior Analysis in Practice (BAP) is a peer-reviewed translational publication designed to provide science-based, best-practice information relevant to service delivery in behavior analysis.
Behavioral Science in the 21st Century: “The mission of Behavioral Science in the 21st Century is to facilitate Skinner’s vision of behavior analysis as a comprehensive science of behavior by providing a non-academic dissemination outlet accessible to scientists, practitioners, and the general public.”
Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB): “The Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc. (BACB®) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1998 to meet professional credentialing needs identified by behavior analysts, governments, and consumers of behavior analysis services. The BACB adheres to international standards for boards that grant professional credentials. The BACB’s certification procedures and content undergo regular psychometric review and validation pursuant to a job analysis survey of the profession and standards established by content experts in the discipline.”
Association for Behavior Analysis International: ABAI also offers a page dedicated to other resources and websites dedicated to behavior analysis that is definitely worth checking out.
