Creatures

Hearts don’t settle where I come from,

They’re jumpy little creatures.

Sometimes they roar in delight,

They laugh merrily and roll around the room,

Happy.

Hearts don’t settle where I come from,

They go to bed with the lights on.

The lightest of sleepers,

Afraid of the dark and things that sneak up on you,

Cautious.

Hearts don’t settle where I come from,

They wear long sleeves to hide the scars.

They ask too many questions;

They remember too many things to stay in one place too long,

Broken.
