The first stores to order our product, Rimping supermarkets, are based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. From their website:

“Rimping Supermarket aspires to make everyday shopping a dignified & pleasurable experience, combining fair pricing and high standards of customer care with an enduring commitment to the welfare of the local community, and to the environment”

We are a little different to other supermarkets.

Our beginnings date back over 60 years to a small grocery shop on the east bank of the River Ping. At that time, most parts of Chiang Mai outside the old city were rice fields and forest. The ‘Superhighway’ was a dusty track. There were few motor vehicles; local people travelled either on foot, bicycle or pedal rickshaws. Although the railway line opened in 1921, a surfaced road was not completed until 1972. Before that time, driving a car from Bangkok was often an adventure!

From that simple “Mom & Pop” venture, we have grown into a chain of nine stores. In other respects, little has changed. We remain a family-run business. We have no international affiliations. We love what we do, and we think that shopping should be a pleasant and dignified experience. Promotional announcements are unheard of, and light classical music plays in the background. Browsing can often be a discovery, as we stock many unusual products not sold elsewhere.
