Amazing arcticle! I was born in 1993, so I am a bit young for Friends, that’s something I catched up on later, but came to be one of my favourites. I grew up on How I Met Your Mother, and still a fan of comedy sitcoms like New Girl or Modern Family. The thing is, this always bothered me. All sitcoms are about mediocre people, living mediocre lifes. It’s a classic and basic scene when the “smart one” tries to get out, making friends with “the snobs” or “the nerds”, but then luckily realizes how his “real” friends are back in the mediocre apartment, who will reassure him of his mediocrity, lazyness and blutness. Being honest, I always watch these sitcoms when I need a reassurement after a long, stressful day, because they tell me: hey, it’s fine if you don’t fight to be the best of yourself. Just find a bunch of losers you can move in with in your 30s. But indeed, it’s not funny at all.
