While not typically thought of as horror, the most horrifying for me is the scene in “The Day of the Locust” in which a mob of celebrity worshipers at a premiere turns to mass hysteria, a hive-mind frenzy of murder, rape and destruction. It gets to me because it is a rare depiction of one of the most terrifying aspects of human nature.

Also, the diner scene in “Mullholand Drive” that leads to the thing behind the dumpster. And the beautiful mysterious creepiness in “The Innocents”, the scene at the pond, and the ending, madness or ghosts?
