This Week I Learned…

Well… technically, it’s been 3 weeks. 😬😁😬 Life has a way of happening, eh?

PM stuffz:

  • Urgency. You own it. If you let that slip, no one else on your team will pick up that slack.
  • Localization… gotta account for time in your project plan to get your copy changes translated into all the languages your product supports.
  • If you want to run an A/B/C test, you better have two completely independent (and valid!) hypotheses to test.
  • Edge Case bashes. A brilliant new Quality Engineering process we’re playing with at Yammer—it’s like a Bug Bash and a Post Mortem both went back in time and had a baby.

Random life things:

  • Opera Parallel opens up their rehearsals to the public! Such a beautiful way to experience the opera. Next time I’ll have to make it to the performance as well.
  • How to make stuff with molten freaking glass! Amazing workshop at Public Glass & I made the paper weight above.
  • An assortment of things related to K-means clustering from Erin Akinci (the value of normalizing data, the curse of dimensionality, the value of components).
  • The unbelievable emotional release made possible by pigeon pose.
  • How to use Evernote for a killer GTD system— Thanks Neil McCarthy!
  • The way our primary system works in California. 1). We FIRST vote for which humans will be the delegates for each of the candidates. 2). Later, we vote for which candidate we support. 3). Then those candidates’ delegates go to the national convention. 4). Finally, those delegates we elected vote for the candidate they pledged to support. 5). OR NOT! They can choose to vote for any other candidate at the convention! Wild!
