I get your point but what what shape would the country be in if we found ourselves without enough food to feed our population. After all, we live in a country where the number one health problem of the poor is …Obesity. You find this in no other country. Yes, subsidizing farmers seems odd and is quite contrary to my conservative values. However, the reality is that any nation that can not feed its people, provide its energy and manufacture its products (ie produce military products), will eventually cease to exist or will become insignificant and unable to protect its people.
