#UndocuMom: A story of Elvira

Elvira and her daughter, Ambar Pinto

My mother is Elvira — she is a person who I admire a lot.

My mother is originally from Mexico.

She has made countless sacrifices for me and my brothers. She always puts her children before anyone or anything else. Her love and nourishment has made me who I am today.

From my mother I’ve learned that everything is possible when one is determined. That there is always time for bettering ourselves and our surroundings. I’ve learned to give with my heart and hold family sacred.

She has taught me that I have value, that no one can define who I am or what I’m capable of. She has taught me that in order to get what we want we need to work hard and be strong. She has taught me that when life hits us hard, we get up and make it better.

Thanks to my mother, now I am a powerful womyn that has a voice and won’t be silenced.

Her courage and love define who I have become, and this is why I want to share with the world who is my #UndocuMom.
