#UndocuMom: A story of Florencia

Undocumented Mother, Florencia at a restaurant.

My mother is Florencia — she is a person who I admire and continue to learn from everyday.

My mother is originally from Mexico City.

She has been a muxer who has always shared her wisdom and life lessons when I most needed them. She has been the consistent nourishment and courage that I have needed in my most troubling and also beautiful moments brought by life. Because of her I have become who I am today.

From my mother I’ve learned:

That courage is admitting that I am wrong and also pushing folks to think differently.

That loving is one of the most courageous things one can do and that our voice is a very powerful tool.

She has taught me that family is what keeps our hearts alive and food is a way to learn about communities culture and home and that empathy is a very powerful and courageous practice.

Thanks to my mother, now I am A foodie. A person who knows how to receive and give energy from the community. A chingona like her.

Her courage and love define who I have become, and this is why I want to share with the world who is my #UndocuMom.
