Are tab and badge schools important for Platoon Leaders?

When I was a 2LT, I remember I was absolutely convinced that I needed to go to either Ranger or Sapper school and as many of the badge schools (airborne, air assault, pathfinder, etc.) in order for me to be successful as a platoon leader. Later in my career, I saw the same mentality amongst brand new 2LTs coming out of BOLC. So how important are these schools? Do they make you a better platoon leader? Or is it driven from a culture where people are impressed by your ‘bling’ when you walk through the door? Let’s discuss!
