Farmer’s Day
Kisan Diwas (Farmer’s Day) -Deb Tagore
India was, is and will be an agro-dominant nation of the world. No wonder our exports earn from what our soil reaps. But everyday, we keep forgetting our identity and uniqueness shadowed by the opaque modernized values.
No, we don’t get a holiday at schools and offices. Neither do we burst crackers or spurt colours at each other on this day. Sometimes, the most trivial actions we do is a year’s hardwork and a moment’s happiness for some. Yes, we celebrate Kisan Diwas (i.e. Farmer’s Day) on the 23rd of December every year to promote awareness to help and reward farmers for their contribution to society. Isn’t it virtuous to uplift and thank the farmers who remain poor, but feed us with their hardwork’s reap? Indian farmers indeed lack financial assistance, education, health care facilities, etc. Some efforts and devotion from the ‘haves’ can surely uplift the ‘have-nots’. We aren’t strangers to the fact that the gap between the two is increasing gradually. Statistics proves this by the number of farmer suicides ever year. It is a shame that the our feeders are sacrificing their lives because of our lack of support.
The good thought of few won’t suffice to change the situation, in fact the good thoughts of all is required to change what hasn’t yet. There is yet a lot to be done to improve the conditions of the farmers and their farming practices, only then our country would be a developed one in the true sense. Take pride for our farmers as that’s the least we can do!
