Daily Devos (February 11th)

Matthew 22:37–38 — Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”

I’m a single man.

And when it comes to Valentine’s Day, I usually spend it pretty normally. I’m not taking girls out on dates or finding an excuse for romance. There’s nothing really special about it. What still gets me is that I haven’t been in a relationship yet.

Sure, nobody will ever say that’s a bad thing. But for me, I feel like it’s gotta happen at some point right? I really do feel like I’m missing out on something nice; to spend Valentine’s Day with someone. Although, like I said, I’m not one to be desperate and force something to happen. So…I just push those thoughts out with humor and food.

I may have realized though that I just need to adjust my perspective. Cause see, the verse above says that the first and greatest commandment is to love God with everything. So instead of feeling bad for not having a woman to spend this weekend with, what if I just spent it with God? God is THE creator of love right? It seems to make sense.

But then again, I may have just not found the right woman yet. Or maybe, I just get too self-conscious when I want to ask a woman out. In all reality though, this seems like a pretty good solution.

For all the single ladies and men, let’s spend time with God and see if this fills our potential void inside. When Valentine’s Day comes around, let’s not think upon our worries, but focus on God and how He loves us.
