Artists: No Need for ETH

Previously to register music with Ujo’s Portal you needed to have ETH. Starting last week, artists no longer need ETH to register themselves, their music groups, and their music. Registering each of these as events on Ethereum was our initial approach, but we’ve since moved this off-chain to IPFS to mitigate the end-user cost. For purposes of chronology, immutability, and association to ETH address, this is sufficient during this phase.

We believe that optimization towards the end users, both artists and fans, will be the best approach in iterating our vision for a P2P metadata event network for music. Right now, that means reducing barriers to entry and focusing on our primary goal: marking artists more money.
