That’s Canadian. It’s aboooot $7,445 USD.

There have been many posts about the traffic spikes from being of imgur or reddit but few discuss the income generated. I cannot give specific details like CPM, CTR, RPM, Impressions or clicks. I’d be all for giving these details but my Google contact advised me not to citing their terms which are pretty clear.

However, I can give a rough estimate of the impact a spike in traffic has.

First is May 2, 2014 & it’s a Friday which made it all the more unique. Each traffic spike has sustained traffic from the source for 48-72 hours.

April 30th represents a decent day for the site, above average but nothing crazy. Traffic starts to grow on May 1st and peaks on May 2nd. May 3 & 4th we see traffic quickly dropping. It continues to drop to the $50-70 range.

The reason for the spike is users sharing the content as seen below. Note the pageviews per post. Users typed in the URL are viewing it on imgur.

The second spike is larger but still sees the same kind of shark fin acceleration and drop off. This is not due to a high bounce rate or low duration per session. Below is the lifetime stickiness of the site:

This time the traffic is from reddit. The spike from reddit is much more extreme both in scale and how quickly it drops off once something new takes it’s place.

Make no mistake, I am grateful that the content resonates with users & do not think I’m entitled to any of this. I remember years ago wanting to get some insight on how medium to high traffic sites see traffic shift from day to day and what those shifts meant.

The site in question is UnethicalHacks.com.
