Yann, former History student at the Erasmus University Rotterdam

StayRotterdam has given many of us a social lifeline in these crazy times. While I’ve struggled with routines and boredom in self-isolation, It has helped me so much with those issues by giving me the chance to learn new things, such as in the art classes.

The sports channel has helped keep me fit with competitive exercises. We’ve even had theatre improvisation sessions, which were a blast.

More importantly, the various meet-and-greet sessions and game nights have given me the chance to reconnect with both old friends and make new ones, in some ways greatly shortening the distance I felt between from Rotterdam after I moved away. Being able to directly talk to people undergoing the same experience as you, and talking about it, really helps.

In some ways (and I know I might an exception), StayRotterdam has connected me to Rotterdam and the people there more than I had managed myself before the quarantine (as I have lived in London for the past few months). I am so thankful to the people who created it and run it, because my experience of this whole quarantine would be far, far worse without it.
