10 Facts every Muslim and Christian should know about Dajjal (Antichrist)

As a Muslim, we have blind faith in the oneness of Allah and we believe that Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) is the Last Prophet of Allah. Moreover, we also believe in the Day of Judgment. No doubt to say that our Prophet guided us about every aspect of life.

According to the Quran, Our Deen is completed for us. No one will ever come to teach us anymore. His demise meant the end of the Prophet Hood. Every prophet who came to this world warned his nation about the Day of Judgment and the false Messiah that would come to the world to misguide the guided. The false Messiah is known as Dajjal, he is anti-Christ.

Dajjal name in Arabic means deception. That’s why false Messiah is named as Dajjal. His only motive will be to misguide the people from the path of Allah. Christians, Jews, and Muslim all believe in the arrival of Messiah Dajjal. It is referred to as Antichrist in the Holy Bible.

Our holy Prophet (SAW) has given a complete description of Dajjal, how he looks? who will be his follower? How a believer can recognize him?

1-One with Blind Eye: Our prophet Mohammad SAW called Dajjal as Al-Awar which means one with a blind eye. He (SAW) said Dajjal right eye would be like a floating grape and will not be fixed in one place. Its left eye will also be defective.

Ibn Umar reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ). made a mention of Dajjal in the presence of the people and said: Allah is not one-eyed and behold that Dajjal is blind of the right eye and his eye would be like a floating grape. — Sahih Muslim 169 e

2-Hair: It is narrated in one of the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W that while explaining the appearance of Dajjal said that he will be having very curly hair. In another hadith, it is mentioned that he will be having an abundance of hair. — Sahih al-Bukhari 3439, 3440, Sunan Ibn Majah 4071

3-Forehead: The important description given by our Holy Prophet about Dajjal is there would be a word KAFIR written between his eyebrows and forehead and a believer of Allah would clearly see that word and recognize him.

Anas b. Malik reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: There would be written three letters k. f. r., i. e. Kafir, between the eyes of the Dajjal. Sahih Muslim 2933 b

It is also narrated in another Hadith that even illiterate people would be able to read the word Kafir on his forehead — Sahih Muslim 2934 b

4-Dajjal will emerge from Khorasan: It was narrated that Abu Bakr Siddiq said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told us: ‘Dajjal will emerge in a land in the east called Khorasan, and will be followed by people with faces like hammered shields.’” — Sunan Ibn Majah 4072

5-He would not be able to Enter Makkah and Madina: It is mentioned in Hadiths that Dajjal would not be allowed to enter Madina. He will try to enter but will have to stay outside Madina in the salty barren areas.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Dajjal will come to Madina and find the angels guarding it. So Allah willing, neither Ad-Dajjal nor plague will be able to come near it.” — Sahih al-Bukhari 7134

In another Hadith, it is mentioned that the Madina will be having 7 gates at that time and 2 angels on each gate would be guarding it. — Sahih al-Bukhari 7125

In another Hadith it is mentioned that he will not be able to enter Makkah and Madina — Sahih Muslim 2943 a

6-Power to make someone Alive: It is narrated in Hadith that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W explained that Dajjal will be having powers to kill someone and make him alive again.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) told us a long narrative about Ad-Dajjal, and among the many things he mentioned, was his saying,

“on that day the best man or one of the best men will come up to him and say, ‘I testify that you are the same Dajjal whose description was given to us by Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) .’ Ad-Dajjal will say to the people, ‘If I kill this man and bring him back to life again, will you doubt my claim?’ They will say, ‘No.’

Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that man and bring him back to life. That man will say, ‘Now I know your reality better than before.’ Ad-Dajjal will say, ‘I want to kill him but I cannot.’ ” — Sahih al-Bukhari 1882

7-Dajjal will be the biggest Fitnah: Prophet Muhammad S.A.W used to seek refuge from the trial of Dajjal. Indeed, he will be a great Fitnah for the believers. Abu Darda’ reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah Al Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal. — Sahih Muslim 809 a

All the Prophets warned about Dajjal: All the prophets of Allah warned their people about the Fitnah of Dajjal. It is said that there are around 124,000 prophets in the world. — Sahih al-Bukhari 3337

8–70,000 Jews fill be following him: It is also mentioned in a hadith that Dajjal will be followed by around 70,000 Jews who will be wearing Persian shawls.

Anas b. Malik reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: The Dajjal would be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan wearing Persian shawls. — Sahih Muslim 2944

9-Water and Fire: It has also been reported in one of the Hadith that Dajjal will come with water and fire. What would seem to be water, would be fire. In the same way, what would seem to be fire, would be the cold water. — Sahih al-Bukhari 7130

It was narrated that Hudhaifah said: The Messenger of Allah said: ‘I know what the Dajjal will have with him. He will have two flowing rivers, one that appears to the eye to be clear water, and one that appears to the eye to be flaming fire. If anyone sees that, let him go to the river which he thinks is fire and close his eyes, then lower his head and drink from it, for it is cool water. — Sahih Muslim 2934 b

10-There will be very few Arabs remaining that time: Umm Sharik reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The people would run away from the Dajjal seeking shelter in the mountains. She said: Where would be the Arabs then on that day? He said: They would be small in number. — Sahih Muslim 2945 a

11-Hazrat Isa A.S. will kill him: Mujammi’ bin Jariyah Al-Ansari said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) saying: ‘Eisa bin Maryam will kill the Dajjal at the gate of Ludd.’” Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2244
