San Francisco’s Most Instagram-worthy Spots

With its colourful sights and breath-taking views, San Francisco is the perfect city for Instagram aficionados. Get your creative eyes, phones and photo-editing apps ready; here’s our guide to the most visually-stunning spots around the city.

Take a stroll through Clarion Alley

The amazingly vivid street arts along Clarion Alley not only has tons of powerful social justice messages and stories screaming to be heard, it is also one of the best place for snapping Instagram shots. Bold colors, intricate details and the ever-changing murals are what attracts the crowd. While the walls (and even floors) make great photo ops, do make sure to watch where you’re stepping — you don’t want to be kicking into glass bottles or syringes (yikes!).

Step into frame at Golden Gate Heights Mosaic Stairway

The Golden Gate Heights Mosaic Stairway is a hidden gem within San Francisco. Beautiful lighting is of utmost importance for photographers (or in this case, Instagrammers), thus we would suggest visiting this spot around sunrise or sunset to get the best shots. Oh, and do go all the way up the mosaic stairway to Grand View Park (also known as Turtle Hill); a stunning view stretching from downtown San Francisco and Golden Gate Park, and around Lake Merced awaits! Go trigger-happy with some panoramic shots before calling it a day.

It’s a walk in the park at Lover’s Lane

With rows of eucalyptus trees lined up alongside a walkway, Lover’s Lane is a beautiful, natural piece of artwork tucked in the Presidio National Park. It is said that in the late 1800s, the U.S. soldiers trudged along this path to get into town to visit their loved ones — quite a sweet history behind such a beautiful location isn’t it? Take a nice, long stroll (it’s literally a walk in the park so don’t worry if you don’t have your hiking boots with you) and enjoy the serenity of this spot. Do remember to take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but your footsteps!

Spot the contrast between the old and new San Francisco at The Painted Ladies

If beautiful architectures are your thing, you should definitely make your way down to these Victorian set of masterpieces — The Painted Ladies. Built in the late 1880s, these pastel houses are not only special because of the unobstructed, panoramic view of the downtown skyline that acts as their background, but also because they showcase the contrast between the old and new city of San Francisco. Like many other Instagram-worthy spots, dusk is the best time to photograph these beauties.

Take in the breath-taking view at the top of Lombard Street

With the views of downtown, bay area and the Coit Tower right in the middle, and (expensive-looking) gorgeous houses lined up on the sides, Lombard Street is one good-looking, Instagram-worthy spot. Lombard Street is one of the most crooked streets in the world, and if climbing uphill to the top of the street is proving to be too tough for you, we suggest you take the Powell-Hyde cable car or MUNI bus which stop right where you need to be. Visit early to beat the touristy crowd.
