Too late.
Rose signed, yet another offensive player with a low defensive rating, this one more injury-prone than even Blake Griffin.
Coach Lue is inexperienced, the head man is inexperienced, and the owner, Dan Gilbert, not himself any sort of basketball expert, interferes in every decision. The Cavs have dysfunction written all over them.
LeBron wants to coast during the regular season instead of instilling the habits they’ll need in the playoffs, Kyrie is looking for an exit, and the roster is built poorly for defense, as they have signed very few 2-way players — and their coach obviously doesn’t emphasize defense in training and drilling, as is readily apparent watching them play. The Cavs have a collection of amazing talent and a tax bill to match, but it’s not the right talent, and it’s not being managed well at all.
That the Cavs did as well as they did against Golden State is a testimonial to LeBron’s and Kyrie’s incredible offensive skill. But that’s not enough against Golden State. If they can’t patch the holes in their defense, it won’t even be enough against Boston next year.
