Meeting with my Mentor

Meeting with a potential mentor can lead to a game-changing relationship — but the onus is on you, the entrepreneur, to ask the right questions.

My mentor in education is my great teacher Prof. Jameel Sabri. He is the manager Shariah compliance at MCB Islamic bank. I sent him an email asking for a short meeting to have his kind advice on my new project about Islamic Banking. He was so kind and approved my request and gave me time for a meeting.

At the scheduled time I visited him in his office for a very short time and asked him the questions I had in my mind about him and about my research project. He answered every question very politely and detailed. He provided me a guideline about my research work and also identified the gaps in research work. As far as career in Islamic Banking is concerned , he said that first you should start from any point you get job in Islamic Banking and after wards you will have to pass some special Shariah regarded courses to flourish your career in that field.

That was a short but still very effective meeting. I sent him a thank you email afterwards. That was a superb experience of learning for me.
