Space is still stunning
NASA could take humans to Mars very soon.
Back in the 60s, it was pretty easy to get stuck in front of the TV with one of the wonderful and modern shows NASA had to broadcast. Well, today the show isn’t over yet.
Last june a rocket abort motor was launched from the isolated desert of Promontory in Utah. This gadget is part of the Space Launch System (SLS), the brand new mission that will carry the astronauts to Mars.
Despite it was called by critics “a rocket to nowhere”, NASA has already taken its decision. The first mission will go to the moon’s orbit in 2018, to later take its lucky astronauts to the mystery of Europa moon. And as something it had not been felt since the Apollo days, this mission could possibly figure out a new path towards Mars.
So NASA knows exactly these advances are not old-fashioned. This is why they still organize live performances. And the launch of this abort motor test was not the exception.
Charly Bown, of of the program managers, even turned from his place just to watch people’s faces and take picture of them. They still smile. They still look amazed. They are still stunned.
People’s shocked faces are the best proof that the world of high technology is always moving forward. And we have to jump on it. Let’s not just stay on the earth forever.
Science is still stunning. There is always something new to discover.
