Vellore Institute of Technology is one of the oldest and most prestigious private institutes in India that has stood the test of time and maintained its unblemished reputation. The institute holds strongly to its beliefs of innovation and technology and has invested tremendously in numerous technical projects, with a complete team devoted to the development of Mars rovers with each passing year, 3 FSAE racing teams one of which is an internationally acclaimed team that won laurels in Italy. VIT is home to over a 100 clubs and active international chapters namely IEEE, Developer Student Club, Computer Society of India, Creation Labs, IET, Apple Developers Group, Facebook Developer Circles, to name a few. Ahead of its time in all spheres, VIT boasts of a complete wifi campus equipped with state of the art technology. Such is the technological atmosphere in VIT that a whole building is devoted to development and innovation namely, Technology Tower which houses a 3-D printing lab and advanced labs maintained by companies such as Intel, DeShaw, and Cisco. Our technical festival GraVITas is one of the largest in the country, spread over 3 days consisting of hundreds of technical workshops including seminars on blockchain technologies, machine learning, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, app development, game development, robotics, image processing, virtual reality and much more. Owing to VIT’s technological inclination, VIT Hack came into inception.

It all began with a conversation between two ambitious minds and a visionary teacher, Dr. K. Devendranath Ramkumar on the back bench of a classroom. They wished to do something big, to bring a wave of change to this illustrious institution, to do away with hackathons divided by clubs and chapters and build something that unites people and so was born — VIT Hack. VIT is a college that thrives on the hackathon culture, we take pride in being home to more than 10 heavily-subscribed annual hackathons and so it was only a matter of time before VIT came up with its own large-scale, college-level hackathon. A carefully hand-picked team of the most brilliant minds across VIT, Vellore was chosen to come together and work towards making this dream of a unifying hackathon a reality.

The structure of VIT Hack was charted along the lines of massive college level hackathons such as HackMIT and HackHarvard. After months of brainstorming and deliberation a bespoke plan that accommodates the entrepreneurial demands of today’s day and age, was devised — A 36-hour long hackathon which will comprise of everything ranging from insightful talks by leading industry experts, a chance to network with tycoons from the IT-industry, ideation, innovation, implementation and an incubation round where participants will get an opportunity to take their ideas to the next level. We will present participants with real-world problems faced by huge companies to which they will find viable solutions, this will spark the fire of entrepreneurship in them while simultaneously helping large IT conglomerates with problems faced by their sector. Through this, we hope to create a win-win situation for both participants and companies alike. But it’ll take more than just a great idea to be crowned the winner of the ultimate hackathon that VIT Hack is. Come armed with your best pitch, design and applicability and take home the coveted title of VIT Hack winner for 2019. Walk away with a dreamy cash prize, possibly even a deal with a reputed company, and an unmatchable experience.

For the first edition of VIT Hack, we aim to host more than 500 participants from over 15 countries across the world. With such a diverse pool of intellectuals, we’re sure we’ll be entertaining the most creative ideas ever. We move forward with the goal of putting VIT Hack on the global map, and make it known and loved internationally. It’s a wonder that the biggest names in the industry are showing so much interest in our hackathon, this is the encouragement we need to scale VIT Hack to the heights it deserves to be at.
