Electrify Europe conference: “Put consumer at the centre” says Verv COO Maria McKavanagh

Our COO Maria McKavanagh was at the Electrify Europe conference in Vienna, Austria this week to talk about Artificial Intelligence and blockchain technologies and what their role in energy markets will be in the future. Electrify Europe is described as “the world’s first event dedicated to the convergence underway between the power generation and transmission & distribution sectors, driven by digitalization, decarbonization, decentralization and electrification.”

It attracts thousands of attendees from the energy industry, with a mission to bring together thought leaders and disruptive technologies that will help the industry adapt to the evolving demands of the consumer and continue to innovate.

With data being a hot topic, Maria outlined our plans of how we hope to allow consumers to take ownership of their own energy data and reap the rewards associated with its value to their own benefit. She outlined our ultimate goal in helping consumers bring down their energy bills to £0 and how our peer-to-peer trading platform could be the enabler in this.

“Large, established companies are increasingly looking to smaller, more disruptive startups when considering their future planning” said Maria after the conference, adding that “The utilities industry is waking up to the fact that we have to put the consumer at the centre of everything we do — or face failure.”

Putting the consumer at the heart of the proposition is at the core of our mission here at Verv — we allow consumers to see exactly where they are using electricity and how much it adds to their bills. In the future, we hope that they will be able to use that data to secure cheap, renewable energy automatically using the VLUX energy trading platform.
