Layton Community Action Council Encourages Youth Leadership

Since 2004, Val Stratford has led Stratford Insurance Group, Inc. in Layton, Utah. In addition to having several industry certifications and affiliations, Val Stratford serves as the executive director of the Layton Community Action Council (LCAC).
LCAC’s mission is to enhance the quality of life of Layton residents of all ages with the contributions of pro-active young people. Its Youth Council has sponsored several events to promote those goals:
On Local Officials Day, Youth Council students visited with elected community leaders. Meeting in the capital, Salt Lake City, participants discussed issues with state senators, representatives, and city leaders.
Older persons were the focus of the LCAC’s senior prom. The idea was so popular that seniors were invited from the entire county, not only Layton.
For the winter holidays, volunteers put up a special Christmas tree as a fund raiser for a local domestic violence shelter and approximately $350 was collected.
Layton residents in grades 8 through 12 can be invited to join the Youth Council. Membership extends from September through July.
