Barriers To Entry Are A Good Thing

What happened to Clubhouse is what’s happening to all our institutions. When you remove the barriers for entry in politics, business, and media, you get less a culture than a nightclub scene.

In A World Where Apathy Rules

“Movements are what take five or ten percent of people and make them decisive—because in a world where apathy rules, five or ten percent is an enormous number.”
— Bill McKibben

Scientific Method Leads Humans To Reliable Results

“At the core of modern scientific practice method is the idea that the value of a theory is best determined by its ability to make falsifiable predictions that one can test against empirical reality.

Consequently, when carrying out investigations scientists assume a position of methodological naturalism.

Humans are fallible and irrational apes.

The scientific method helps imperfect beings iron out their biases and develop reliable results.”

When Science Mixes With Politics, All We Get Is Politics

Good title. Pandering, condescending article.

https://bigthink.com/13-8/science-politics/

The scientific method, by its nature, is pedictive.

Predictions cannot be made without assumptions.

And assumptions cannot be anything but children of our biases.

Therefore, scientific predictions are always biased (i.e. political).

Science, however, is not.

When an experiment can be repeated and the results are same, that is science.

This Might Be Worth Looking In To…

“We conclude that the mRNA vacs dramatically increase inflammation on the endothelium and T cell infiltration of cardiac muscle and may account for the observations of increased thrombosis, cardiomyopathy, and other vascular events following vaccination.”

It is immoral to mandate these vaccines.

Very Good At A Simple Game

“Outsized rewards go to people who figure out how to master a skill or a point of view, and then commit to doing it again and again.”

This Thing Has a 0.25% Infection Fatality Rate

“Infection fatality rates ranged from 0.02% to 0.86% (median 0.26%) and corrected values ranged from 0.02% to 0.78% (median 0.25%). Among people <70 years old, infection fatality rates ranged from 0.00% to 0.26% with median of 0.05% (corrected, 0.00-0.23% with median of 0.04%).”

“the term infection fatality rate (IFR) also applies to infectious diseases, but represents the proportion of deaths among all infected individuals, including all asymptomatic and undiagnosed subjects.”

Public education is expensive and ineffective.

The US spends a lot (top 5 in dollars spent per pupil), and gets little (bottom half of most categories, compared to other OECD nations).

There are better, new, and innovative alternatives to what we have.

We can do better.

If we want to.

Drugs Should Be Legal, All Drugs

It’s a person’s right if they want to poison their own body.

Legalizing drugs takes power away from black market organizations, creates additional tax revenue for municipalities, and provides a framework for responsible use.

One thing the pandemic taught us...Most of society is a social construct. We can change all of it, if we want to.
