Metacognition and The Writing Process

I have a brain that likes to analyze things and break them down to their core principles. That’s how I think. So when I read something, my mind keeps forming connections between the idea on the page and what I have read/heard/experienced elsewhere. These connections are usually odd and revelatory.

I apply the same when I write. I use the technique of mind-mapping to get all my haphazard ideas and connections around the topic on a page. This helps me to see pathways and logical sequences later one when I scan the map.

As for fiction, I do the same. This opens me up to different story lines and possibilities.

Thank you for sharing this. I never knew there were people who cannot see images in their heads. Frankly, I would rather die than lose this ability.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
