Discovery of gravitational waves confirms Einstein’s prediction

Large laser antennas in Louisiana and Washington state detected small gravitational waves Sept. 14, waves which Einstein had predicted based on his general theory of relativity nearly a century ago. The waves are distortions in space and time and originate from two black holes which collided into one. Scientists have been able to convert the waves into audio to “listen” to the cosmos, opening up a groundbreaking new way to study black holes, neutron stars and potentially the beginning of the universe.
