I saw a documentary some time ago (which I am now having trouble finding the title of) about sex dolls and their owners. One of the more prominently featured owners bought Bianca after Lars and the Real Girl came out. He found to his surprise that she was not anatomically correct below the waist, and so a fair portion of the runtime is spent taking her to the Real Doll factory and learning how they get made. While the operation was in progress the audience was treated to a number of demonstrations of the latest technologies and features and so on.

The thing that got me about all of this was that I was even surprised in the first place. I know enough about movies to know that not all prop guns are made to fire and that this is a detail that was never meant to read on camera. I don’t expect the briefcase from Pulp Fiction to contain anything more than a light bulb, yet somehow I was taken aback to learn that the most famous Real Doll was made uh… incomplete.
