The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 Episode 7 Recap and Power Rankings

This episode starts out a little before the last one ended, right before Jordan pulls Ammo’s last sticker. Ammo gets picked up in an ambulance and is tended to. This brings us to the Marie/Tori elimination round. Marie has no confidence going in, hoping for a meteor to come down and stop the round before it starts. Tori steamrolls Marie 3–0 (I don’t feel like the girls having two less stickers was necessary.) Tori makes it clear she’s gunning for Aneesa, who says she immediately regrets her decision (via confessional.) It turns out the Redemption House is still happening, but Ammo will not be taking part in it. Marie pours two drinks for herself as she sits in the house alone before we cut to the actual house. As the usual post-elimination party is taking place, Aneesa starts eying Veronica. Aneesa and Veronica have significant history together, with both having dated Challenge great Rachel. Aneesa invites Veronica back into her room with her, and they start to have some “fun” before the next challenge.

This episode’s challenge has the players divide themselves into five trams of four and raise up one of the members through a pulley system to place plaques which contain the title of a season of the challenge on them. The seasons all have to be placed in order from one to thirty (I could have aced this challenge) on a vertical pillar. The teams are:

Light Blue: Bananas/Hunter/Kailah/Nicole

Dark Blue: CT/Leroy/Cara Maria/Camila

Green: Nelson/Cory/Aneesa/Britni

Red: Derrick/Jordan/Tori/Jenna

Pink: Dario/Tony/Veronica/Jemmye

Most people jump to be in teams with people they are in alliances with, but Bananas purposefully gets a guy he is not allied with (Hunter) on his team so he has someone to gun for in the Double Cross. Every team has at least one player who appeared in The Duel or prior, so they seem pretty balanced. Royal has the most manpower and are putting their logos up the fastest but keep driving Camila into the pillar. Aneesa seems to be have the best memory of the seasons, and her team is in first. A quick standings update shows Green in first, followed by Dark Blue, Light Blue, Red, then Pink. Bananas seems to be really struggling to remember the seasons, which is surprising considering he was on half of them. Dark Blue gets the win, followed by the Pink team. And then the Green team. This puts the “Red” team (if they call what is clearly Orange Red the whole season I might have to stop watching the show) and the Light Blue team into the Double Cross. Bananas strategy would seem to pay off here, as he, Derrick, and Jordan can all gun for Hunter. The girls side also seems to be similarly stacked as Kailah, Jenna, and Tori all seem to be in an alliance and Nicole being the easy throw-in. Aneesa also claims to have a broken ankle, but the house seems to be very doubting of her claim.

Once back from the challenge Britni, Cara Maria, Jenna, Tori, and Camila are all talking and all seem to want to throw in Aneesa. Cara in particular seems to want her gone but she also says Aneesa in very good at eliminations and if they throw someone in they want her to lose. Veronica and Nicole are also mentioned, with the primary reason being their politics are very messy. We then go straight to the deliberation without a pre-deliberation, especially since we got no word of how the guys were leaning. CT, Leroy, Cara Maria, and Camila all vote Cory. Camila says she messed up with her vote from before, and now that lines have been drawn she has to pick a side. Camila, Cara Maria, Leroy, and CT all vote Aneesa, with the reasons being her ankle and her messy politics. Aneesa seems very surprised by the vote, but also isn’t scared of an elimination round. At the presidio, we get to the double cross. Nicole pulls it for the girls and throws in Kailah. When asked for a reason, she just says it’s nothing personal and moves on. For the guys, no similar miracle takes place and Jordan pulls the double cross. Jordan pulls it and throws in Hunter. The elimination this episode is called “Dead Weight.” The elimination entails each competitor climbing a ladder with an ball and chain attached to their ankle. The competitors then must climb the ladder while smashing the ball and chain through a plastic compartment to allow themselves to climb. Aneesa starts out ahead, but Kailah then pulls ahead and gets the victory sending the vet home. Before we get to the boys elimination, the credits start to roll, ending another fantastic episode of the Challenge XXX: Dirty 30. Two quick observations: It’s surprising that even with minimal house action, they couldn’t get through the traditional challenge-deliberation-elimination episode structure that dominated previous seasons. I don’t know exactly why this is, but it disrupts the usual organized flow of the series. Secondly, I really think that only one person wins the money on this season. They way they keep talking about the $1,000,000; I really think only one person wins it. I’m not sure how this would be done, but I just get that impression.

In Redemption:

2) Marie: Is just a worse version of Aneesa.

1) Aneesa: Is just a better version of Marie.

In Game:

19) Cory: My bet is on Hunter to win the elimination, and even if Cory survives he’s down to one solid ally.

18) Nicole (+2): Seems to have almost no allies and is not a good competitor.

17) Hunter (-4): My money is on him to win the elimination but if he wins Nelson is his only ally left in the house.

16) Veronica (-6): Big drop for Queen V this week as she seemed to be the second choice for elimination and lost her best ally.

15) Nelson (-6): I feel bad for Nelson because he has honestly been very good on this season and is a likable guy but with one of Cory and Hunter gone he is an easy target.

14) Dario (+1): Once Cory’s Boys have been vanquished he becomes the scapegoat of the power alliance.

13) Tony (+3): Being under Bananas wing keeps moving him up but the other vets probably won’t show him the same loyalty.

12) Jemmye (+4): Doesn’t seem to have anyone besides Jenna and Kailah gunning for her, but we’ll see how loyalties shake out once the girls get thinned down a bit more.

11) Britni (+7): Big jump for Aneesa. She was in the room when Cara’s alliance was discussing Veronica and has been decent enough in the challenges so far to survive.

10) Kailah (+2): She keeps getting thrown into elimination, but she’s in Cara’s alliance and I can’t see her losing unless it’s against Cara, Camila, Tori, or maybe Jenna.

9) Jenna (+2): Even though Kailah’s a better competitor than Jenna, Kailah is also the one whom everyone seems to go after before Jenna.

8) Bananas (-2): While Bananas move during the team making process paid off, it doesn’t really make sense (shouldn’t you always want more people in the double cross who won’t say your name?) and he hasn’t been great in the daily challenges either.

7) Jordan: Seems off the radar now and having Derrick pick him as his teammate is great for his alliance standing.

6) Tori (+2): Seems very well liked by the cast and her absolute domination of Marie reinforced how great of a competitor she is.

5) Derrick K.: Is probably in the best political position in the house (no one’s gunning for him and is high up on a lot of people’s alliance ladders) and has not seemed to have lost any of his athleticism from year’s past.

4) Leroy (-1): Wins again this challenge and isn’t a target of anybody.

3) Camila (+1): With her seemingly being back to a strong spot in the power alliance, it’s hard to see her not making the final.

2) Cara Maria (-1): Is really 1A with CT, as the two have absolutely dominated the game so far.

1) CT (+1): CT joined the game in episode 2. He has participated in four challenges since then, and has won every single one. He also has controlled every vote and still has Bananas being the main target for their alliance.

A single golf clap? Or a long standing ovation?
