What are Signless and Payless Transactions?

At the core of this innovation lies vouchers, which serve as programs facilitating interactions with dApps without necessitating token possession. dApp owners issue vouchers, allowing users of their dApps to interact with the dApps without the burden of maintaining tokens. The mechanism’s brilliance lies in its ability to streamline processes while maintaining user privacy.

Here’s how it works:

Gasless dApp Interactions

  1. A dApp owner issues a voucher to users of their dApp.
  2. Interacting with the dApp using the voucher is done smoothly without direct involvement from the user. This voucher pre-pays the gas fees necessary for facilitating these interactions within the dApp ecosystem.
  3. Crucially, the user’s account remains tokenless throughout this process. They don’t need to hold any tokens specific to the dApp they’re using.

This approach mirrors the traditional web2 model, where developers rent server space and cover associated costs while allowing users to access the service through subscriptions or ad-based revenue. It resembles a Blockchain as a Service framework, providing a decentralized framework for service provision.

This approach offers a multitude of benefits for both users and dApp developers.

Payless transactions in Vara’s Battleship Game enable gameplay with zero tokens. However, to promote sustainable usage and prevent misuse, specific gameplay events may be temporarily enabled to demonstrate the functionality and subsequently disabled.

The Battleship Game is open-source on GitHub, allowing anyone to fork the code and deploy their own instance (including the game program, the frontend and the voucher-issuing service (optional)). While the signless feature is available to all, gasless transactions may be subject to intermittent availability.
